Atlanta runners will lead the way on the road to the Men's Final Four
ATLANTA –- Basketball fans everywhere know the road to the 2013 NCAA® Men’s Final Four® ends in Atlanta. But on Saturday, April 6, another road to the Final Four will occur – namely, the “Northwestern Mutual Road to the Final Four 5K.” The Northwestern Mutual sponsored event takes participants on a scenic detour through the streets of Georgia’s capital and ends at International Plaza outside the Georgia Dome, where the day’s semifinal games will take place.
The 5K is open to all ages and will benefit the Coaches vs. Cancer® program, a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society® and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) that empowers coaches, teams and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer.
Proceeds from the race will help fund pediatric cancer research and other American Cancer Society initiatives.
“We are pleased to be a part of this year’s 5K event, which supports a cause that all of us at Northwestern Mutual care very deeply about,” said Conrad York, vice president of marketing for Northwestern Mutual. “Every day, we place a great emphasis on giving back to the communities where we live and work, and we look forward to a great race.”
Runners, walkers and basketball fans who register to participate in the event can use their race number for $2 off admission to Bracket Town Refreshed by Coca-Cola Zero®, the Ultimate Final Four® Fan Fest held at the Georgia World Congress Center, April 5-8.
“The Northwestern Mutual Road to the Final Four 5K gives fans an opportunity to compete as part of Final Four weekend and take a stand against cancer,” said Roshini George, national vice president of health promotions for the American Cancer Society. “Runners, basketball fans and NCAA basketball coaches all will be participating. It’s a great way to kick off the day’s semifinal games and help the American Cancer Society finish the fight against the disease.”
