Jefferson's 34 help Roadrunners cruise to home victory

DENVER -- Brandon Jefferson scored a career-high 34 points as No. 5 Metro State cruised to a 95-61 victory against Colorado Christian on Friday at home. The Roadrunners improved to 11-1 overall and 8-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while CCU fell to 7-5 and 5-3.

Jefferson's 34 points were the 11th-most in school history and six shy of the school record of 40 set by Reggie Evans in 2010 at New Mexico Highlands. Jefferson made 10-of-15 from the floor, including 6 of 9 from the outside, and hit all eight of his free throw attempts. He also had four assists and two steals.

Nicholas Kay poured in 17 points and had six rebounds. Mitch McCarron had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds, adding six assists. Jourdon Hunter provided 12 points off the bench.

Metro State shot 53.3 percent in the game and outrebounded the Cougars 46-31.

The Roadrunners went on a 13-2 run to lead 40-24 with 6:42 left in the first half and took a 53-32 lead into the break after shooting 72 percent in the first half.

Metro State led by as many as 34 points in the second half.
