Lamar fires Knight after going 6-50 in past two seasons

BEAUMONT, Texas -- Pat Knight has been relieved of position as Lamar head coach, director of athletics Jason Henderson announced on Sunday afternoon. Knight posted a 29-60 (.326) overall record during his three seasons in Beaumont.

Following his arrival prior to the 2011-12 season, Knight guided the Cardinals to a 23-12 overall record, and a berth in the NCAA tournament. The 2011-12 squad won six consecutive games to close out the regular season and win the Southland Conference tournament title, but the program has struggled since its postseason berth.

In the past two seasons Lamar managed only six wins posting a combined 6-50 (.111) overall record, and a 3-26 (.109) Southland mark. The Cardinals enter their rematch with Sam Houston State 13th in Southland standings with 3-22 overall record, and a 2-11 Southland mark.

Former Lamar assistant coach Tic Price will serve as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
