For Scranton men’s basketball coach Carl Danzig, this season means the last with one of the toughest recruits he ever landed and the first with one of his easiest.
It’s extra special because both players grew up just down the hall: sons Ross and Ethan. “I have a phenomenal relationship with my sons and it’s wonderful to have them play for me here at Scranton.”
“Ross was a challenge to get. He had the opportunity to play at the next level,” Danzig said. Ultimately, the chance to play in meaningful postseason games (not to mention a familiar coach) helped Ross choose Scranton after a year of prep school in New Jersey.
That extra year also allowed him to suit up with his younger brother, Ethan, a freshman reserve on this year’s squad. “Ethan was all-in right away,” says Danzig of his middle son’s recruitment.
“We pretty much told the other coaches to look elsewhere.” Ethan says, “I’ve always wanted to play for my Dad. I’ve been around [the program] such a long time, I’m just really glad to get a chance to finally play.”
