Kansas basketball: Student wins $10,000 from Bill Self on half-court shot

One lucky Kansas student won $10,000 at the Jayhawks’ midnight madness festivities Friday.

Kansas ran a promotion allowing two fans to take a half-court shot -- they were also given the option to pick someone in the arena other than a current Jayhawks player or recruit to take it for them -- with a $10,000 check from Kansas coach Bill Self as first prize.

Well, promotion participant Jerrod Martin Castro made the smart play. He chose director of basketball operations and, more importantly, former Jayhawks player Brennan Bechard to attempt the shot on his behalf.
