Butler to wear jersey patch in honor of Andrew Smith

Former Butler center Andrew Smith passed away on Tuesday at the far-too-young age of 25. Smith had been battling non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma that would eventually turn into leukemia. The disease ultimately proved to be too much, even for a fighter like Smith.

The Butler family rallied around Smith and his wife, Samantha, during such times of despair. It will continue to do so. For the rest of the season, the Bulldogs will wear patches on their uniforms that read ‘AS44.’ Smith wore No. 44 while at Butler.

Smith is no longer with us, but his spirit certainly lives on.
