KU-WVU breaks record for loudest crowd roar

It's no secret that Allen Fieldhouse gets loud during Kansas basketball games. That atmosphere was one of the key ingredients to the Jayhawks' remarkable 54-game home winning streak that was finally snapped by Iowa State two weeks ago.

But the Phog took its noise to the next level during Monday night's primetime matchup with West Virginia, as the crowd broke the Guinness world record for loudest roar during an indoor sports event.

The decibel level reached 130.4 during the first half of the top-10 matchup, moving past the previous record that was set at Rupp Arena earlier this season on Jan. 28 during a game between Kentucky and Kansas (126.4). Before that contest, the NBA's Sacramento Kings held the record for four years.

According to Kansas Athletics, this is the second world record to be shattered in Lawrence this season, as the Allen Fieldhouse faithful packed the arena with 3,473 patrons wearing holiday sweaters this December, breaking the previous mark of 1,175.
