Fourth-ranked UW-Whitewater gave number three UW-Eau Claire its first loss of the season, 73-61 Saturday evening in Kachel Gym of Williams Center in Whitewater, Wisconsin.

Although Whitewater led the final thirty minutes of the game, it wasn't without anxious moments.

UW-W led 34-24 at the half, but that would be the last double digit margin until the waning moments of the game.   Twice in the late stages UW-EC pulled within five, 64-59 at 1:27 on a layup by Heidi Arciszewski, and again 66-61 after a jumper by Jodi Lindner at 0:45.

UW-W used free throws, making seven of eight, down the stretch as Eau Claire tried to foul to conserve the clock.    Tiffany Morton made three of four, Kelsey Hendrickson two, and Nicole Bundy two to end the game.

Morton and Hendrickson scored 19 apiece, to lead all scorers.  Morton hit 9-11 free throws, and Hendrickson was 3-5 from beyond the arc.  Hendrickson, UW-W's point guard, also had just one turnover in 38 minutes.  Morton was also the game's leading rebounder, with eight, and she led both teams with three blocked shots.  Rachel Woolever had four assists for the Warhawks.

Arciszewski topped EC with 18 points and seven rebounds, also contributing three assists and two steals.  Hannah Mesick added 14 points, and Missy Fremstad dished out a game-high five assists.  Heather Witt led both teams with four steals.

UW-W is 14-1 overall and 5-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  UW-EC is 12-1 and 4-1 in the league.

UW-Whitewater's next game will be Saturday the 17th at UW-Stout, with the next home game Wednesday, January 21 at 7:00 with UW-Platteville visiting Kachel Gym.
