February 7, 2009-The #4 Lady Hornets made only ten of 21 free throws and Neb.-Omaha shot .517 from the field in a 78-72 upset by the Mavericks on Saturday in Omaha, Neb.

Emporia State trailed 14-7 to open the game before going on a 14-2 run to take a 21-16 lead with 11:30 left in the half.  Brittney Miller scored ten straight points during the run. ESU took a 37-35 lead into the locker rooms.

The Lady Hornets lead would reach eight points three times in the second half but ESU, the last time at 57-49 with 12:04 remaining.  UNO would  then go on a 15-4 run over the next 7:28 to go ahead 64-61.  The lead would be three ties and two lead changes over the final four minutes with the Mavericks taking the lead for good with 1:11 left on an old fashioned three point play by Cayla Hargrove. UNO would then hit five of eight free throws in the final 41 seconds to secure the win.

Cassondra Boston led ESU with 22 points and four assists.  Ida Edwards added 16 points and seven rebounds while Miller ended with 11 points and five boards.
The Lady Hornets are back in action on Tuesday, February 10 at Southwest Baptist.  Tip-off from Bolivar, Mo. is set for 5:30 p.m.

It was the first time a team has shot at least 50% from the field against ESU since Washburn shot .500 on Feb. 23, 2008
