The College of Saint Benedict basketball team (25-3 overall) remains undefeated at home (15-0) after beating Ripon College (17-9) 55-42 in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament.

Despite a scoreless initial three minutes, the Blazers jumped to a 6-2 lead with 15 minutes left on the clock. The Red Hawks, however, crept back and managed to tie the score at eight with 9:30 remaining. This was the closest Ripon came to gaining a lead throughout the game. CSB stayed ahead and went into halftime leading 22-15.

After forcing 14 first-half Red Hawk turnovers, the Blazers forced another 11 in the second half. They capitalized on these turnovers, scoring 21 of their 55 points off turnovers. Free throws were also key in the second half, where CSB was 8-for-10 in the final two minutes of the game. The Blazers came out on top 55-42 to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Sophomore wing Amy Stifter led the scoring with 16 points, 11 of which came in the second half. Senior forward Ariel Tauer contributed 11 points, while sophomore post Danielle Frank grabbed 13 rebounds and had three blocks.

The Blazers host UW-Whitewater tomorrow, Sat., March 7 at 7:30 p.m. in Claire Lynch for the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Tickets are $7 for adults, $3 students/children/seniors. Gate opens at 6 p.m.
