MANKATO, MN - Winona State University added some more history to an already historic season by defeating Colorado State University-Pueblo 78-55 in the second game of the opening round to the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament held at Bresnan Arena on the campus of Minnesota State University Mankato.

The contest was the first ever for a Warrior women's team in regional competition and it also increased their season record for wins to 24.

The Warriors came into the contest as the No. 3 Seed in the region and now will face No. 2 Seed Fort Lewis College, CO, Saturday, March 14, in a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.

Winona State held the Skyhawks scoreless for the first three minutes and 57 seconds to the start the second half and then went on a 17-5 run to take a 20-point, 54-34, lead with 13:01 left to play in the contest. WSU followed that run by taking its biggest lead of the night at 27 points, 74-47, with 4:50 to play.

The big difference in the game came in turnovers, where the Warriors forced the Skyhawks into 23 turnovers and scored 27 points off those turnovers. WSU, on the other hand, had only ten turnovers and CSUP netted just four points off those.

WSU also controlled the boards after an early slump and went on to outrebound CSUP 37-25. Ana Wurtz led the Warriors in rebounding department with eight.

Overall four players scored in double figures for Winona State, as Jenny Steffern led the way with 19. Molly Anderson followed with 17, Wurtz tallied 14 and Bonnie Bjorke came off the bench to score 11.
