CANYON, Texas – Lizzie Brenner scored 24 points to lead #3-seed Central Oklahoma to a 72-63 victory over #2-seed Washburn, Saturday evening in NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball South Central Region action at the First United Bank Center in Canyon, Texas.

The win lifts UCO to 27-5 on the season and puts them into the Regional final game against the winner of Emporia State-West Texas A&M.  Washburn’s season comes to a close at 27-5.

Washburn opened the game quickly, racing ot an 11-2 lead at the 13:42 mark of the first halt.  While UCO came back to tie the game twice during the first stanza, the Lady Blues took a 36-33 advantage into the locker room.

The Bronchos took their first lead of the game at the 15:07 mark of the second half on a Brenner lay-up.  The lead would see-saw back and forth until UCO took the lead for good at 48-47 with 9:52 to play on an Ashley Beckley lay-up.

UCO would then open an 11-point margin en route to the 72-63 win.

UCO’s Brenner led all scorers with 24 opints, while Rose Anderson added 15 and Beckley contributed 10 points.  Brenner and Beckley had a team-high seven rebounds apiece.  The Bronchos shot 49.1 percent from the field and an impressive 53.3. percent in the second half.  They also committed just nine turnovers, while forcing 19 Washburn miscues.

Washburn was paced by Janice Bright’s 16 points, while Jessica Mainz added 11 poitns.  Kalee Silovsky had a game-high 10 rebounds.  The Lady Blues hit 43.1 percent from the floor and outrebounded UCO by a 33-32 count.

The Regional Finals will take place Monday, March 16 at 7 p.m. CDT at the First United Bank Center in Canyon, Texas.
