Philadelphia, Pa. - The top-seeded and 14th-ranked Franklin Pierce University women's basketball team defeated fifth-seeded American International College, 65-46, in the semifinal round of the NCAA Division II East Region Championship Tournament Saturday night, hosted by Holy Family University.

The Ravens improved to 26-5 for the season and advance to the regional title game, while the Yellow Jackets finished the 2009 season with a record of 21-13.

Junior forward Johannah Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England) scored a game-high 20 points with seven rebounds, five assists, four blocked shots and three steals to lead Franklin Pierce. Senior guard Toby Martin (Wayne, Maine) netted 13 points, while senior guard Jennifer Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England) and senior guard Vanessa Power (Mildura Australia) added 10 points each.

Freshman guard Michelle DeRoma (Boston, Mass.) led AIC with 12 points off the bench and senior forward Stacy Boisvert (Agawam, Mass.) netted 11 points with seven boards. Boisvert finished her career with 1,361 career points and 726 career rebounds, ranking her 10th on the Yellow Jackets’ career scoring list and ninth on the career rebounding list.

The Ravens never trailed in the contest, using early runs of 8-0 and 16-4 to take a 24-10 lead with 6:01 to go in the first half. AIC pulled back within nine, 25-16, after a DeRoma jumper, but Franklin Pierce closed the period on a 7-2 burst to take a 32-18 lead at the half.

The Ravens lead grew to as many as 29, 61-32, with 4:35 to go in the contest before the Yellow Jackets closed the game on a 14-4 run for the 65-46 final.

Franklin Pierce shot 44.2 percent (23-52) from the field and 82.4 percent (14-17) from the free throw line, while AIC shot 31.7 percent (20-63) from the floor and 17.6 percent (3-17) from beyond the arc.
