CLEVELAND, Miss. – Top-ranked Delta State kept its home winning streak alive as it ran by Southern Arkansas 76-50 on Saturday. It was the 57th consecutive home win for the Lady Statesmen.
Delta State All-America junior center Veronica Walker dominated the game and was one blocked shot away from a triple-double, finishing with 30 points, 15 rebounds and nine blocks in only 24 minutes of play.
“I think she had a tremendous performance—one of the best since she has been here,” said head coach Sandra Rushing. “And the best part is I get to have her for another year."
In the first half, Southern Arkansas, which was looking for its second win of the season, fell behind 10 points with 11:22 left in the first half. The Lady Statesmen got out fast, easily outscoring and outrebounding the Lady Muleriders as Walker posted her fifth double-double well before the clock expired in the first half. She scored 23 of the Lady Statesmen's 39 first-half points while grabbing 11 rebounds.
Bug Cooper had six assists during the first half.
The Lady Statesmen had the same level of intensity in the second half, shooting 50 percent from the floor (15-30). The Lady Muleriders struggled, hitting only 32.8 percent from the floor (19-58).
Southern Arkansas was led by Shenelda Levingston, who scored 14 points.
