POMONA, Calif. - The No. 5 seed Alaska Anchorage upset fourth-seeded Western Washington 55-48 in first round action of the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball West Region Tournament.

The Vikings of WWU would lead for most of the first half with help from Megan Pinske, who would collect 12 total points. WWU would lead by as much as 12 but the Seawolves bounced back strong.

UAA cut the Vikings' lead down to seven to close out the half with help from Kylie Burns, who sunk two 3s in the final minutes. Rebounds under the basket were crucial in the victory and Hanna Johansson played a big part in that, collecting 12 rebounds, in addition to her 15 points, and three steals.

The Seawolves' (27-6) momentum carried into the second half as they continued to widen their lead. Kaitlin McBride would tie the game and help take the lead with two clutch layups. McBride finished with 22 points.
