Owls’ Fantini strong on defense with seven steals, eight boards
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Southern Connecticut State defeated No. 21 Assumption 71-63. The Owls got out to a fast start in the first five minutes of the game, going on an 11-4 run.
SCSU continued to dominate, getting out to a 22-point lead with seven minutes remaining in the first half. They Greyhounds fought back and were able to get the lead down to 12 points going into halftime. The Owls shot an impressive 52 percent from the field and 50 percent behind the 3-point line.

The Greyhounds slowly chipped away in start of the second half and were able to get the lead down to four points with less than five minutes remaining, but weren’t able to finish the job.
Alex Fiola led the Owls in scoring, recording 20 points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals. Lauren Allen and Sylvonya Moore both chipped in 12 points of their own. Moore also added eight rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Camille Fantini helped on the defensive side of the ball, recording a team-high seven steals to go along with seven points and eight rebounds. Moni Smith-Ocran fell one point short of a double-double, scoring nine points and grabbing 10 boards on the night. Keshia Primo came off the bench and gave the Owls nine points and three rebounds.
SCSU improved to 17-3 on the season and 14-2 in Northeast-10 Conference action.
