RIVER FALLS, Wis. -- UW-River Falls used a well-balanced performance to down UW-La Crosse 64-55 in the opening round of the WIAC tournament at the Karges Center.

The Falcons, who came into the game as the No. 4 seed against No. 5-seed UW-L, were in control for most of the first half, building a lead by as many as 12 with 7:11 remaining. They went into the locker room at halftime leading 32-25, however the Eagles opened the second half on an 8-0 run to be right back into the game. The second half was a back-and-forth contest until UWRF pulled away in the closing minutes. Clutch free throws by Alise Holst, and strong play by Brittany Gregorich and Tiffany Gregorich sealed the win.

Holst led all Falcons with 18 points, going 7 of 8 from the charity stripe. Four Falcons ended the game with double-digits with Brittany Gregorich ending just shy of a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds.

As a team, the Falcons shot 39.7 percent from the field on 23 of 58 shooting.  La Crosse shot 35.1 percent.

"This time of year it's about playing another day and we're doing that," said Falcon Coach Cindy Holbrook after the game. "But we'll have to play a whole lot better at Stevens Point."
