ALLIANCE, Ohio – No. 2 Mount Union beat rival John Carroll 72-52 Wednesday in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

The Purple Raiders (6-0, 1-0 OAC) got a game-high 14 points from Tierney Allen, 12 points off the bench from junior Amanda Turner and 11 points from senior Rosa LaMattina.

Beth Switzler had 13 points to lead the Blue Streaks (5-1, 0-1 OAC), who took their first loss of the season.

The lead changed hands three times early in the first half and Mount Union had a 16-14 lead when the Raiders went on a 12-4 run to make the score 28-18 with 6:09 remaining in the first half. Mount Union led by as many as 12 before taking a 36-27 lead into the half.

The Raiders put the game away with a 13-6 run to open the second half to go up 49-33 with 16 minutes to play. Mount Union led by as many as 23 before the 72-52 final.
