ERIE, Pa. -– Sixth-seeded Glenville State squashed third-seed Shaw 111-86 on Friday in the opening round of the Division II tournament.

The GSC defense caused 30 turnovers and converted them into 36 points. Five players scored in double figures for GSC, led by Kenyell Goodson, who scored a game-high 24 points. Ginny Mills scored 20 points, with Ashleigh Fossett scoring 13 points, while Briauna Nix and  Kenyona Simmons both chipped in with 12 points.

Nix also pulled down six rebounds while Jelena Elez dished out 10 assists.

Shaw was led by Crystal Harris with 16 points.  Isayra Diaz and Taylor Dalrymple both chipped in with 14 points.

Shaw would jump out to a 9-5 lead early in the first half. However, GSC would come right back and tie it up at 11 all at the 15:46 mark.

The Lady Pioneers would explode and build a 16-point lead 29-13, with 10:58 to play in the first half. Shaw would make a small run and cut the Lady Pioneers lead to 10, 55-45, as they headed to halftime.

In the second half it was all GSC, the closest that Shaw would get in the second half would be seven points.

With the win, the Lady Pioneers advance to play the winner of California (Pa.) and Edinboro.
