Thomas More Athletics | March 1, 2014 Moss scores record 63 as Thomas More cruises 106-88 Share CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. -- Sophomore guard/forward Sydney Moss scored an NCAA Division III-record 63 points to lead the third-ranked and top-seeded Thomas More to a 106-88 win against fifth-seeded Waynesburg in the semifinals of the Presidents' Athletic Conference championship tournament at the Connor Convocation Center.Moss broke the previous mark of 61 when she made two free-throws with 18-seconds to play in the game. The previous record was set by Oberlin's Ann Gilbert when she scored 61 points against Allegheny on Feb. 6, 1991.Thomas More jumped out to a 14-8 lead when Moss made a lay-up with 13:30 to play in the first half. Waynesburg answered with a 14-6 run capped by a Katie Gehlmann 3-pointer to take a 22-20 lead with 11:19 to play in the opening half. The Saints led by as many as 18 points as they closed out the half on a 35-18 run to take a 55-40 lead at halftime.The Yellow Jackets opened the second half on a 9-7 run to cut the lead to 62-49 with 17:21 to play in the game when Elaine Hasek made a three-pointer. Thomas More answered with a 9-0 to take its biggest lead of the game at 71-49 when Moss made a lay-up with 16:22 to play in the second half. Waynesburg responded with a 37-27 run capped by a Lauren Blair three-pointer with 3:23 to play in the game to cut the lead to 98-86. Thomas More closed out the half on an 8-2 capped by Moss' record breaking two free-throws for the 106-88 win.Joining Moss in double-figure scoring was senior guard Katie Kitchen with 19 points and junior guard Sydni Wainscott with 10. Moss led the team on the boards with a game-high nine rebounds and steals with a game-high six. Senior guard Devin Beasley led the team in assists with six.
