Ala.-Huntsville tabs Lemmond as coach

Andrea Lemmond
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- Alabama-Huntsville has announced the hiring of Andrea Lemmond to be the program's next head coach. Lemmond comes to Huntsville after spending six seasons as an assistant at Samford.

"We are extremely excited to have Andrea Lemmond join the UAH family as head women's basketball coach," director of athletics Dr. E. J. Brophy said. "Her history of recruiting outstanding students who are also outstanding basketball players will be invaluable as we move into this new era of Lady Charger basketball."

During Lemmond's tenure at Samford -- which saw her involved in all aspects of the program including recruiting and practice and in-game coaching -- the Bulldogs reached new heights as a program. The team won at least 20 games in four of Lemmond's six seasons, including a school-record 25 victories during the 2010-11 season.

That success led the Bulldogs to postseason achievements, also, as Samford won the SoCon tournament in back-to-back seasons in 2011 and '12 to reach consecutive NCAA tournaments, giving the Bulldogs three consecutive national tournament appearances as the team also advanced to the WNIT in 2009 and earned a first-round win against Ole Miss.

Lemmond inherits a UAH program that has also enjoyed recent success including a Gulf South Conference tournament title in 2013, and the Lady Chargers also earned NCAA tournament berths in 2012 and '13.

Prior to joining the Samford coaching staff, Lemmond spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Huntingdon College.

Lemmond graduated from Samford in 2006 after playing four seasons for the Bulldogs, and she was especially strong during her senior season in which the team recorded the program's first 20-win season along with its first appearance in the Ohio Valley Conference tournament semifinals.

In addition to graduating from Samford, Lemmond also earned a master's degree from Auburn in 2008.
