Amherst matches record with 99th consecutive home win

Amherst matched Connecticut's record for consecutive home victories with a 99th consecutive win on Saturday night, beating Mount Holyoke 97-41.

The school's streak started with a one-point win against Colby on Jan. 31, 2009. The Jeffs (2-0) haven't been challenged at home much since that game.

Amherst will try to break UConn's mark on Sunday when the Jeffs face the winner of Farmingdale and Baruch in the championship game of their tip-off tournament.

The Jeffs set the Division III mark last season, passing the record set by Rust from 1982-89 when they won 88 in a row.

The Jeffs have had a lot of success recently under coach G.P. Gromacki, who is in his eighth season at the school. Amherst reached five consecutive national semifinals from 2009-13, including winning a national championship in 2011.
