INDIANAPOLIS -- The 2016 NCAA Women’s Final Four logo was unveiled Saturday night by the NCAA and the Indiana Host Committee (IHC) during the Indiana Fever-Washington Mystics WNBA game played at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The unveiling was part of a celebration of women’s basketball that included representatives from the NCAA, IHC and host conference/institution -- Horizon League and IUPUI.

Indianapolis will play host to a celebration of women’s basketball in 2016, with three women’s basketball national championships being decided during a 48-hour span at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The 2016 NCAA Women’s Final Four will mark the third time that Indianapolis has hosted the event, with games played on April 3 and 5, while the NCAA Division II and III Women’s Basketball Championship games will both be played April 4. It will be the first time that all three women’s basketball divisions crown a national champion in the same city. Indianapolis previously hosted the Women’s Final Four in 2005 and '11, with Baylor and Texas A&M winning the national championships, respectively.

“Indianapolis will be the center of the women’s basketball universe in 2016 when we crown three national champions over a two-day period next April,” said Anucha Browne, NCAA vice president, women’s basketball championships. “We look forward to working with the Indiana Host Committee, Bankers Life Fieldhouse and our host conference and institution in making this a memorable experience for all of our student-athletes, coaches and fans.”

The look of the 2016 Women’s Final Four logo is inspired by the legacy of Indiana basketball and the City of Indianapolis brand and flag. The background shape is reminiscent of a championship banner commonly associated with collegiate athletics championships. The brick pattern is evocative of the walls of gyms and field houses found all around Indiana, a reference to the rich history of basketball in the Hoosier State. These elements form the backdrop for the NCAA championship trophy, the iconic symbol of student-athlete success. The colors, especially the vibrant use of orange, purple and red represent the excitement and youthful energy of the event, while the ball’s design is a visual interpretation of the host city, Indianapolis. It reflects the design of the city’s flag and brand, and represents Monument Circle and Indianapolis as being at the Crossroads of America.

“The Indianapolis community is ready to welcome women’s basketball fans from across the country as champions are crowned in Divisions I, II and III,” said Ryan Vaughn, president of the Indiana Sports Corp. “That excitement begins Saturday as we join great partners including the NCAA and Indiana Fever in unveiling the 2016 logo. We can’t wait to celebrate women’s basketball and great student-athletes at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in April.”
