SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – With tougher competition on the way, the Louisiana Tech women’s bowling team went 2-2 including an upset of No. 15 Southern University in the opening day of the Greater Ozark Invitational on Friday.
The Lady Techsters also ran into Stephen F. Austin for the second consecutive week and like the last time the two teams faced, Tech came away with the win in the Baker format.
They then had back-to-back games against No. 20 Valparaiso and lost by 20 pins in the first game after being down by as much as 80 pins throughout. In the second Baker game, the two teams were tied through four games. However, the Crusaders took advantage of a poor fifth game by Tech and won by 80 pins.
“This is a good experience for the girls,” head coach Shawn Jackson said. “You have to stay in the game frame-by-frame. We can’t afford to go out and have two or three bad frames and expect to stay competitive with the better teams.”
Louisiana Tech will enter quarterfinal action on Saturday with play finishing up on Sunday. They could face any 10 teams that are competing, including seven that are ranked nationally in the top 20.
