BESSEEMAR, Ala. -- Arkansas State moved into first place after the second day of competition at the Holiday Classic tournament hosted by Alabama A&M.

The Red Wolves moved into first place in the total pinfall count and went 5-0 on the day with victories against Alabama State, Tulane, Alabama Birmingham and two victories against Southern. The Red Wolves finished the day with a total pinfall count of 8,919, besting Central Missouri by 49 pins. The Jennies finished with a total of 8,870, while first-round leader Vanderbilt is third with a total of 8,719.

In the individual standings ASU did not have a bowler finish worse than 12th. Sophomore Ashley Rucker finished fourth with a 211 per game average. Senior Emily Troutman finished sixth, while Sarah Lokker was seventh. Amanda Labossiere earned an eighth-place finishish and Rachael Gittings finished 12th.

“We had a strong day and positioned ourselves well heading into Sunday’s bracket round,” ASU coach Justin Kostick said. “We have been bowling well all weekend and have been steady throughout. We just need to carry this momentum in Sunday and hopefully bring home another victory.”
