SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.  -- No. 3 St. Lawrence posted an impressive victory at the 2011 Saratoga Invitational.  The Saints, led by seniors John Johnston and Seth Jackson, ­finished with only 24 points, 41 better than second-place Vassar.

St. Lawrence had four top-five finishes, including Johnston, Jackson, freshman Scott Smolensky and junior Sam Rakoc.  Johnston won the event, his second title of the year, with a time of 25:39. Jackson followed in third place overall in 25:57 while Smolensky (26:10) and Rakoc (26:11) finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Rounding out the team's scoring on Saturday was senior Alex Calderwood, who clocked in at 26:31 in 11th position overall out of 111 runners.  Calderwood's finish secured the second consecutive win for the Saints at the Saratoga Invitational, as they also won the event in their last showing in 2009.

No. 5 Calvin at Knight Invitational
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- With five runners in the top twelve, No. 5 Calvin opened the season with a commanding victory at the 2011 Knight Invite held at the Gainey Athletic Complex.

Dan Kerr placed as the Knight’s top finisher with a third-place result and a time of 24:36.26.  Matt Vander Roest finished fifth with a time of 24:37.74. Greg Whittle rounded out Calvin’s single-digit finishers with a sixth-place showing and a time of 24:52.75.  David Vande Bunte placed tenth with a 25:09.21 time.  Rhett Morici finished fifth for the Knights and twelfth overall with a time of 25:11.42.

After tallying the top-five finishers, Calvin totaled 37 points, 44 points less than second place finisher Allegheny which came up with 81 points on the afternoon.
