No. 3 GVSU wins at Jayhawk Invitational

MUSKEGON, Mich. -- Grand Valley State went just up the road on Friday to take part in the Muskegon Jayhawk Invitational, and came away with a dominating victory.

The team, which was ranked third in Division II in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association rankings, won the event with only 27 points. The Lakers had seven student-athletes finish in the top 16, including Ethan Barnes, who crossed the line second with a time of 25:38.79 on the 8k course.

David Powell was sixth (26:04.65), Peter Tomkiewicz was ninth (26:22.03) and Greg Madendorp was 12th (26:32.97). The final scored runner was Jeremy Wilk, who finished 14th (26:40.38) and set off a string of three consecutive Lakers in the results. Kousei Yajima crossed the line in 15th (26:43.04) and Bryce Bradley finished 16th (26:44.29).

The remaining Lakers taking part in the race were Mitch Tiethof (26th; 27:10.14), Grant Truskowski (31st; 27:16.55) and Tim Hofmeister (33rd; 27:20.55).
