No. 3 Washington (Mo.) wins invite

No. 1 North Central (Ill.) and No. 3 Washington (Mo.) at Wheaton College Invitational 

WHEATON, Ill. -- Junior Drew Padgett and seniors Michael Ellenberger and Kevin Sparks swept the top-three spots in the Wheaton College Invitational to lead six Washington (Mo.) runners in the top-20. The 1-2-3 sweep was crucial in the team race for the Bears as Washington edged North Central (Ill.) 31-33 for the men’s team title.

The two ranked teams performed well in the 14-team field race at St. James Farm.

The No. 1 Cardinals totaled 33 points, just two points shy of No. 3-ranked Washington (Mo.). The host Thunder were a distant third with 106, followed by Illinois Wesleyan (120) and Carthage (169).

Aron Sebhat was North Central's top finisher, placing fourth in 24:57, and was followed across the line by teammates Tim Vazquez in fifth (25:18) and Dave Janet in sixth (25:21).

Ethan Adlfinger gave the Cardinals a fourth top-10 finisher, placing ninth in 25:35.

No. 5 Bowdin and No. 7 Bates at University of Southern Vermont Invitational

GORHAM, Maine --  Led by senior captains Mike Martin and Tully Hannan, the No. 7-ranked Bates edged rival and No. 5-ranked Bowdoin by one point to claim second place among 19 teams Saturday at the USM Invitational.

No. 28 MIT won the team scoring with 37 points, followed by the Bobcats with 85 and Bowdoin with 86.

Martin was second by 1.07 seconds only to Bowdoin senior Coby Horowitz for the fastest time among 284 competitors in the race, completing the 5-mile course at Narragansett School in 25:12.58. Hannan claimed eighth place in 25:46.00.

Junior John Stansel took 17th place overall in 26:09.99, followed by junior Christian Sampson in 24th (26:16.45).
