Preview: Top teams to race in Boston

No. 1 Providence and No. 3 Oregon at Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown

Top-ranked Providence will look to compete at Boston College's Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown at Franklin Park, Mass. on Friday.

Last time out, the Friars earned a win against Columbia, Marist and Stony Brook at the Stony Brook Invitational on Sept. 14 for their second consecutive first place finish with a top-three sweep.

At the Battle in Beantown, the Friars will face a strong field of competitors, including the 2012 NCAA champions, No. 3 Oregon. Providence will also face No. 9 Cornell and No. 24 Boston College. Joining the tough competition is Bucknell, Hartford, John Hopkins, New Hampshire, Northeastern, Rhode Island, Stony Brook, Wisconsin and Yale.

For the third-ranked Ducks, this week's race will open 2013 competition. Oregon is the reigning champion and is eager to begin competition in Boston. Competing for the Ducks will be top returner Sarah Penney, New England native Abbey Leonardi and Molly Grabill, who competed in the 2011 NCAA meet and redshirted last season.

Cornell, ranked-ninth in the country, has not competed since the dual meet with Army that took place on Sept. 14. Cornell was the victor in the dual.

No. 2 Florida State at Charlotte Invitational

In last weekend's meeting with many ACC competitors, No. 2 Florida State put the competition away and had a very successful weekend preparing for the ACC championship.

The Seminoles will look to have continue their success at the Charlotte Invitational at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, N.C. on Saturday. 

No. 5 Arizona at Griak Invitational

On Saturday, No. 5 Arizona will travel to Minnesota for the Roy Griak Invitational. 

The Wildcats are coming off a winning weekend after the Dave Murray Invitional. Maria Larsson and Nicci Corbin led the way for Arizona, earning first and second place. 

At the Griak Invitational, runners will be present from Arizona State, Florida Gulf Coast, Georgia, South Carolina and Vanderbilt, to name a few. 

No. 8 Stanford at Stanford Invitational 

The 40th annual Stanford Invitational cross country meet will be held on Saturday at the Stanford Golf Course. This meet will be Stanford's only home meet of the season. 

Stanford is ranked eighth in the country and fourth in the Pacific Region. The Cardinal returns its top finisher from its third-place NCAA championship-performance of last year, Aisling Cuffe. Also, Jessica Tonn was a 2013 track All-America in the 5,000 meters and returns as well.

San Francisco will be the only other ranked team in the field on Saturday, at No. 23.
