SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Top-ranked Grand Valley State had a strong showing at the 2013 Notre Dame Invitational on Friday afternoon, as the team finished second against a wealth of Division I competition.

It was a narrow margin as the Lakers finished second with 63 points. Winning the gold race was Southern Illinois with 52 points.

The top finisher for the Lakers was Jessica Janecke, who came across fifth with a time of 17:42.5, which would have been good enough for a 29th-place finish in the blue race that consisted of a host of ranked Division I squads. Courtney Brewis (ninth; 17:48.6) and Kendra Foley (12th; 17:51.8) each recorded top 15 finishes, with Foley also becoming the first freshman to cross the finish line. Hannah Osborn (16th; 18:10.6) and Allyson Winchester (21st; 18:20.3) finished out the scoring for GVSU. Madie Rodts (32nd; 18:27.1) and Jordan Chester (34th; 18:27.4) were also among the top seven finishers for the Lakers.
