Trinity (Texas) coach Lawrence resigns

Derick Lawrence
SAN ANTONIO -- Trinity (Texas) head coach Derick Lawrence has resigned.

Lawrence held the position for the past two seasons guiding the Tigers to back-to-back Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championships with both the men's and the women’s squads. Additionally, Lawrence helped Trinity capture the women’s South/Southeast Regional title in 2012 and '13, which earned the team trips to the NCAA championships. The Tigers finished 12th overall in 2012 and earned another top-20 finish in 2013.

In 2012, the men’s team finished second in the regional meet, advancing to the NCAA championships for the first time in school history.

Lawrence was twice named the SCAC Coach of the Year and also twice named the South/Southeast Regional Women’s Coach of the Year.

“We have enjoyed having Derick on staff and appreciate his leadership and guidance in helping Trinity excel at the national level,” director of athletics Bob King said.

Prior to joining Trinity, Lawrence was a All-SCAC athlete at DePauw, where he also served as a graduate assistant coach before serving two seasons as Trinity’s assistant.
