Edinboro wins without top runners; Chico State wins again
T3 Augustana at Caty's Run
MANKATO, Minn. -- Augustana sent five runners to participate in Caty's Run hosted by Minnesota State-Mankato on Saturday morning. Cassidy Soli notched her first collegiate win.
Competing in her fourth race this season, Soli took the meet title with a 15:21 time on the 4K course. Emma Anderson was the only other Augustana woman to run and she placed seventh, clocking a 15:46 on Saturday.
Saturday marked Karbo's first competition this season and he crossed the finish line in 26:05 on the 8K course to take third.
No. 6 Chico State at Triton Classic
LA JOLLA, Calif. -- On the strength of four top-10 finishes -- including a winning time from Ayla Granados -- the Wildcats took top team honors in their final tune-up before the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Cross Country Championships.
Chico State, ranked sixth in the nation and No. 2 in the West Region, totaled 33 team points to edge host UC San Diego and finish well ahead of the six other competing schools.
Granados was the first of the 100-runner field to cross the finish line, clocking in at 22:06.8. Wildcat teammate and All-American Sara Mikesell came in second with a time of 22:30.1.
Rebekah Bahra and Sadie Gastelum also posted top-10 finishes. Bahra placed eighth at 22:57.8, while Gastelum was 10th with a time of 23:00.6.
Five Chico State runners -- Hayley Swanson (12th place, 23:05.6), Jordan Walsh (13th, 23:06.2), Jessica Varela (15th, 23:09.4), Bailey Henshaw (18th, 23:18.4) and Jacquie Adams (19th, 23:19.2) -- delivered top-20 performances.
No. 7 Simon Fraser at Western Washington Invitational
BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- After a week away from competition, Simon Fraser raced on Saturday at the Western Washington University Invitational, and placed second.
The team finished first among collegiate teams in the race as the Greater Bellingham Running Club won the race.
Senior Kirsten Allen was the Clan's top racer, leading her team and finishing sixth overall in the competition in a time of 22:10.
Fellow senior Lindsey Butterworth finished 10th in the race and second on the Clan with a time of 22:21. She was followed by freshman Rebecca Bassett who finished third on the team and 20th in the race in a time of 22:45.
Emma Chadsey finished just behind Bassett in 21st place, running in a time of 22:46.
No. 9 Edinboro at Gannon/Mercyhurst Invite
FAIRVIEW, Pa. -- Edinboro ran without several top runners on Saturday, but still came away with first place in the 2013 Mercyhurst/Gannon Invitational. The invitational took place at Pleasant Ridge Park. With four runners finishing in the top nine, Edinboro finished with 36 points to edge Gannon (42). Five teams competed in the meet.
Liz Budzinski was Edinboro's top finisher and came in third overall, covering the 5K course in 20:02. Gannon's Veronica Bujdos was first, crossing the line with a time of 18:38. Dana Cerroni was right behind Budzinski, coming in fourth just six seconds behind at 20:08.
Allison Gibbens was eighth at 20:46, bettering teammate Breonica Smith by three seconds (20:49). Lauren McKinney completed Edinboro's scorers with a 12th place showing (21:11).
