TCNJ 5, Springfield 3



SALISBURY, MD -- The College of New Jersey defeated Springfield 5-3 today at the Salisbury Athletics Complex in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Lions advance to Monday's regional final where they face defending national champion and No. 1 ranked Salisbury.

TCNJ took an early first half lead over the Pride when sophomore Allison Greene scored with 14:31 left on the clock. Springfield struggled to get control of the ball but with 1:32 left in the half junior Amber Paradee scored to tie the score.

Springfield opened up the second half with a goal by senior Lydia Grant. Grant scored on an assist from junior Meghan Bascetta at 34:01. The Pride extended their lead when freshman Brittany Veazie scored at 31:29 to make it 3-1 Springfield.

The Lions fought back quickly first tying Springfield and then registering a two goal lead. At 28:01 left on the clock freshman Colleen Dougherty scored the second goal for TCNJ. Senior Colleen Stamler registered another goal for the Lions 45 seconds later. With 10:28 left senior Kim Feeley scored on an assist from freshman Jess Berkowtiz to give TCNJ the lead. TCNJ secured its win at 3:12 when sophomore Blair Alber scored on an assist from Stamler.

Springfield's senior goalie Lindsay Pardue recorded 13 saves. Junior goalie Kristina Beyel recorded four saves for TCNJ. The Lions out-shot Springfield 16-8.
