The University of Louisville Field Hockey team was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Academic Team Award list. The National Academic Team Award recognizes those institutions that achieve a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2008-09 academic year. The Cardinals achieved a 3.20 GPA in the 2008 fall semester.
“I am extremely proud that we are staying consistent in earning this academic award,” said U of L head coach Pam Bustin. “We had ten newcomers to Division I hockey this year and they continued to uphold our strong academic tradition. It is a tribute to this university and the athletic department that we strive to achieve this award.”
U of L finished the 2008 season with a 14-7 overall record, including a 5-1 mark in the BIG EAST Conference en route to earning a share of their third straight regular season title. U of L spent the entire season in the NFHCA top 20, reaching as high as No. 11 and earning their second trip to the NCAA tournament.
