NEWPORT, NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport scored a pair of second-half goals as the Captains rallied from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Johns Hopkins, 3-1, Saturday in non-conference action. The 14th-ranked Blue Jays slip to 10-4 with the loss, while the 18th-ranked Captains improve to 11-3.

Sophomore Amy Wharton (Swarthmore, PA/Strath Haven) scored off an assist from senior Andrea Vandersall (Hampton, NH/ Winnacunnet) at 30:02 off a penalty corner to put JHU on top, 1-0. The assist was Vandersall's 17th of her career, pushing her into a tie for 13th in program history. However, the Captains answered just 33 seconds later, knotting the score at 1-1, as Annie Gehring scored off an assist from Taylor Harrell.

Coming out of the half, Kelsey Rigby scored an unassisted goal at 55:15 to give Christopher Newport its first lead. Just over 11 minutes later, Chrissy Kurecki added an insurance goal to push the Captains lead to two.

Senior Sophia Tieu (Cupertino, CA/Cupertino) finished with six saves for the Blue Jays, while Emma Stout had four for the Captains.

Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, October 28 as McDaniel visits Homewood Field. It is the Blue Jays final regular season home game of 2009. The Centennial Conference game is set for 7:00 pm.
