Bloomsburg downs West Chester
Riley’s two goals propel Huskies in battle of top-ranked teams
WEST CHESTER, Pa. -- Amanda Riley scored two goals to lead top-ranked Bloomsburg team to a 4-1 victory against second-ranked West Chester on Tuesday.
In the early going both teams had scoring chances with the Huskies getting seven penalty corners and the Golden Rams two in the game's first 25 minutes. Bloomsburg finally broke through in the 28th minute when Jenna DiSabatino scored off an assist from Brooke Simonovich. For DiSabatino, the hero in last week's win against Shippensburg, it was her third goal of the season.
The Huskies added to their lead just three minutes later when Riley scored off an assist from Amber Aulenbach.
In the second half Riley connected for the second time in the game with Jenna DiSabatino getting credit for the assist just 4:32 into the period.
The Golden Rams cut into the deficit in the 43rd minute with a goal on a penalty corner with Alisha Moran hitting the back of the cage from a Nancy Stehman assist.
Bloomsburg closed out the showdown versus West Chester with Cassie DiSabatino scoring on a penalty stroke. From there the Huskies defense withstood eight shots on goal by the home team throughout an eight-minute stretch.
Bloomsburg finished with 16 shots compared to 13 for West Chester, while the Golden Rams had a 10-9 edge in penalty corners.
Bloomsburg goalie Meghan Hollenbach had six saves, while the Golden Rams' Kristin Arnold had eight.
