No. 1 Salisbury shuts out Hood
Henderson scores a hat trick to lead Sea Gulls to nine-goal rout
SALISBURY, Md. -- Salisbury scored a season high of nine goals against Capital Athletic Conference opponent Hood in its 13th consecutive victory 9-0.
The Sea Gulls (13-0, 5-0 CAC) dominated the scoreboard and the statistics in the first half, scoring five goals, taking 25 shots and collecting nine penalty corners.
Junior Kristina Fusco scored the first goal five minutes into the game as she sent a pass from fellow classmate Erica Henderson past the Blazers' goalkeeper off a corner opportunity. Ten minutes later, freshman Summer Washburn scored her second goal of the season, ripping a shot from the top of the circle to convert another penalty corner.
The Sea Gulls continued to pressure the Blazers (3-8, 0-5 CAC) in the first half, scoring three more times before the half ended. Henderson recorded all three goals, collecting her second hat trick of the season.
The second half was more of the same, as the maroon and gold was able to get a number of players action in the game. Salisbury put 15 additional shots on cage and had 12 penalty corners in the last 35 minutes of play, while holding Hood to zero shots and penalty corners.
Junior Melissa Slocum and senior Danielle Lehman scored their second goals of the season while freshman Kim Markovitz and sophomore Haley Quillen scored their first career goals.
Senior goalkeeper Anna Cooke earned the win as the Sea Gull defense recorded its seventh shutout of the season.
