Comeback win means Huskies finish regular season at 17-0
BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- Brittany Mathews scored the game winner in overtime to lift Bloomsburg past the Pioneers of C.W. Post (9-7, 4-6 PSAC East) 2-1. With the win, the Huskies conclude the regular season with a perfect 17-0 overall record and a 10-0 mark in the PSAC East.
After a scoreless first half, C.W. Post's Lyn-Marie Wilson broke the scoreless tie at the 41:18 mark. Wilson scored her goal by redirecting a pass by teammate Helene Bruckner in front of the net for the score.
At the 45:31 mark, Nicole Bruce tied things up by burying a shot in front of the net. The goal was set up after a shot from Bloomsburg's Amanda Riley was saved, leaving the ball in front of the net where Bruce finished the play. Neither team scored for the remainder of regulation as the game remained tied at one.
Overtime did not last long as Mathews scored the game-winning goal just 1:30 into the overtime period. Riley set up the goal by bringing the ball towards the goal on the end line, drawing out the C.W. Post goalie. From there, Riley sent a cross to Mathews who flicked the ball into the open net for the game winner.
Meghan Hollenbach made three saves in net for the Huskies while Devon Trenkle came up with five. The Huskies outshot the Pioneers 9-6 and also held the advantage in penalty corners, 15-5.
