EWING, N.J. -- Senior midfielder Frances Schaefer recorded a hat-trick while senior forward Kate Norgard added two more goals as No. 10 Montclair State stunned previously unbeaten, third-ranked and defending national champion TCNJ 5-1 on Saturday.

The win ended a seven-game losing streak against the Lions, who dealt Montclair State two of its three defeats during the 2011 campaign. It also was the seventh win against TCNJ in 70 meetings (7-59-4) and the five goals were the most the Red Hawks have ever scored versus TCNJ.

MSU (12-1) accomplished something that no other Division III team has done in the last 362 days by leaving the field with a win against the Lions as it also ended TCNJ's 24-game winning streak dating back to last season.

Montclair broke through for the game's initial goal in the final minute of the opening half with Schaefer knocking in a pass from Jennifer Tafro with 28 seconds left in the first half.

The Red Hawks used momentum early in the second half to score three times in the first 11 minutes, with Schaefer starting things by recording a goal off a pass from Maura Johnston. Five minutes later, Norgard scored on a deflection to bring the score to 4-0.

The Lions broke through for a goal when sophomore Erin Waller took a pass from Camille Passucci on a penalty corner.

Schaefer completed her hat-trick with 3:06 left in the game to round out the scoring.

TCNJ freshman goalkeeper Roisin Dougherty suffered the first defeat of her career with four saves.

Senior Christy Wham had two defensive saves for the Lions.

In goal for Montclair State, senior Megan Bosland finished with a pair of saves for her 12th win of the season.
