GARDEN CITY, N.Y. -- Adelphi played host to non-conference opponent No. T7 Limestone and captured its first shutout of the season 1-0. With the win the Panthers improved to 4-2 overall and the Saints fell to 5-2.
Adelphi, in its third game this season against a nationally-ranked team, kept the Saints scoreless during 70 minutes of play. After going back-and-forth for the first 38 minutes, sophomore Molly Cuevas found the back of the cage on a pass from Mary Plotas at 38:57.
Despite keeping the ball in the offensive end for much of the second half, Limestone was unable to convert on two penalty corner opportunities and had nine shots on goal in the course of the game. Goalkeeper Kelly Serrao had nine saves in the shutout, playing all 70 minutes to pick up the victory.
"We played another physical game against a top-ranked team," Adelphi head coach Gloria O'Connor said. "I think we still need to be working on our shots on goal, getting in the cage and finishing. Our defense held strong today and we got our first shutout, which I'm happy about."
