COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The 11th-ranked Maryland field hockey team dominated Towson from the start and never looked back in an 8-0 rout at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex Friday afternoon.
Maryland (2-2) took a school-record 58 shots, played all 25 eligible Terps and had six different goal-scorers. Juniors Linnea Gonzales and Julie Duncan led the way with two goals apiece. Senior Lein Holsboer scored and notched an assist.
“Today’s performance was dominant,” head coach Missy Meharg said. “We had tons of shots, which is awfully exciting. For us, it’s about getting into a swing. Once the goals started coming, it was just much easier. We’re super excited about this performance.”

Gonzales opened the scoring with a score off a penalty corner in the eighth minute. Hannah Bond and Melissa Wilken set up the play. Fifteen minutes later, Duncan pushed it to a two-goal lead when she deflected in a shot from the near post.
Maryland had 10 penalty corners in the first half alone. It would lead 2-0 at halftime.
Gonzales added her second score of the day when she collected a long pass from Emily Thomas and scored from five yards out in the 51st minute. Her goal started scoring spree of five Maryland goals in just under eight minutes.

One minute after Gonzales’ score, Duncan added her second goal after she tipped in a high, loose ball. Sixty-four seconds later, Holsboer scored off a rebounded shot.
In the 58th minute, Brooke Adler finished off a baseline pass from Holsboer to make it 6-0, then just over a minute later, Carrie Hanks scored off a penalty corner to push the score to 7-0.
Lizzy Dessoye finalized the score at 8-0 when she scored off a rebounded shot in the 67th minute.

Maryland held Towson (0-5) without a shot and took 20 penalty corners to none for the Tigers. Towson goalkeeper Emilee Woodall made 34 saves.
Maryland is hosting No. 9 Louisville (3-1), Towson and No. 20 American (3-1) in the Terrapin Invitational this weekend at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
Maryland will next play ninth-ranked Louisville Sunday at 11:30 a.m. ET, with American and Towson facing off at 2 p.m.
