The No. 3-seeded University of Northern Iowa football team will take on the No. 7-ranked University of Richmond Spiders in the semifinals of the 2008 NCAA FCS playoffs. UNI and Richmond will meet at 3 p.m. (Central) in the UNI-Dome on Sat., Dec. 13.

The winner of Saturday's game will advance to the national championship in Chattanooga, Tenn., to take on the winner of the James Madison-Montana game on Dec. 19.


This is the first meeting between UNI and Richmond on the gridiron. However, UNI has matched up with a Colonial Athletic Association team in each of its past four playoff games - two against New Hampshire (2007 and 2008) and once against Maine (2008) and Delaware (2007).


UNI head coach Mark Farley is in his eighth season at the helm of the Panther sideline. Farley has posted a mark of 75-27 in his eight seasons, which now includes five trips to the NCAA FCS playoffs. Farley earned the 2007 Eddie Robinson Award after guiding the Panthers to a perfect 11-0 regular season and No. 1 national ranking for the final six weeks of the regular season. Farley is 9-4 in the postseason.

Richmond is led by first-year head coach Mike London. The Spiders have posted an 11-3 record this season for London, who is a 1993 graduate of Richmond.


The game will be televised nationally by ESPN/ESPNHD/ Joe Tessitore (play-by-play) and Rod Gilmore (analyst) will have the call.
