Georgia Southern Stuns William & Mary, 31-15
Dec. 4, 2010
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) -Jaybo Shaw ran for three touchdowns and Georgia Southern used its triple option to run for 423 yards and beat William & Mary 31-15 Saturday in the second round of the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs.
Freshman Robert Brown ran for 178 yards and a touchdown for the Eagles (9-4), an at-large playoff team from the Southern Conference in their first season under Jeff Monken.
William & Mary (8-4), seeded second overall in the playoffs, failed to score an offensive touchdown and never solved the offense that former coach Paul Johnson perfected while leading the Eagles to two national titles before moving on to Navy and then to Georgia Tech.
Georgia Southern, which won the last of its six national championships in 2000, moves on to play Wofford (10-2) next weekend. Wofford beat Jacksonville State 17-14, also Saturday.
