Norwich opens renovated Sabine Field after $6 million upgrade in last year
NORTHFIELD, Vt. — Norwich is opening its renovated Sabine Field athletic facility after a $6 million, 10-month upgrade.
The renovated field will be inaugurated on Saturday with a rededication and grand reopening ceremony prior to the Norwich football team's home opener against St. Lawrence.
The renovation created a multi-sport, multi-activity stadium that features a synthetic turf field that will meet NCAA regulations for football, men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's lacrosse.
The state-of-the-art, energy-efficient lighting will enable the first outdoor night games in Norwich athletic history. There is also a new sound system, bleachers and press box.
To top it off, Norwich's newly-refurbished World War II Sherman tank "Sabine Sally" will stand guard over the west end of the field.
