DIII Coaches' Poll

In a relative calm before the storm, the weekend saw only one top-10 team fall from its perch as then-No. 9 Wisconsin-Oshkosh fell in a hard fought battle against No. 5 Wisconsin-Whitewater 17-14. It left the AFCA Division III Coaches’ Poll with a slight shift.

Then-No. 11 Wheaton (Ill.) was the biggest upset of the weekend as they fell to now-No. 12 Illinois Wesleyan 30-19 and then-No. 25 St. John Fisher lost a close game to Ithaca 25-22 to fall out of the rankings. The Cardinals are joined in their fall by then-No. 19 Willamette after being defeated by No. 16 Pacific Lutheran 35-24.

This coming weekend has the potential to see a monumental shift in the landscape of the poll as four top 10 teams matchup against each other. Mount Union, who has held the top spot since the first week, will host No. 9 Heidelberg. The Student Princes will be looking to give the Purple Raiders their first regular season loss since Oct. 22, 2005, when Mount Union lost to Ohio Northern 21-14.

No. 5 Wisconsin-Whitewater will be playing its second consecutive top-10 team, as it hosts No. 7 Wisconsin-Platteville, with the Pioneers looking to take control of the WIAC.

No. 4 North Central (Ill.) will be travelling to No. 12 Illinois Wesleyan in the week’s final face-off between top teams.
