NCAA.com | September 11, 2014 BC to honor 9/11 hero with uniforms Share When Boston College takes the field on Saturday against Southern California, it will do so with a new touch on its uniforms. The Eagles unveiled plans to add a "red bandana" pattern to their helmets, gloves, socks and cleats, an homage to 1999 BC alumnus Welles Remy Crowther. Crowther, a former BC lacrosse player who was well known for his red bandana, died in the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, but not before saving the lives of at least a dozen others. BC also has a live eagle mascot named Welles.
