The Purple Raiders earned their 92nd consecutive regular-season victory with the win against Baldwin-Wallace.
No. 3 Mount Union 59 , Baldwin-Wallace 3
BEREA, Ohio -- Third-ranked Mount Union beat Baldwin-Wallace 59-3 in Ohio Athletic Conference play Saturday in Berea.
The Purple Raiders (9-0, 8-0 OAC) who won their 92nd consecutive regular season game, are set to play for the OAC title next Saturday against No. 6 ranked John Carroll at Mount Union Stadium.
Mount Union quarterback Kevin Burke threw for 301 yards and three touchdowns to pace an offense that out-gained Baldwin-Wallace 497-148.
Bradley Mitchell led the Raiders with 143 rushing yards while receiver Taurice Scott had 10 catches for 114 yards and started the game with a 97-yard kickoff return.
Mount Union's defense held Baldwin-Wallace to 61 rushing yards and 148 total yards as Jonathan Gonell and Alex Kocheff both had seven tackles apiece.
No. 1 Wisconsin-Whitewater 49, Wisconsin-Stevens Point 17
WHITEWATER, Wis. -- Top-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater defeated Wisconsin-Stevens Point 49-17 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at Perkins Stadium on Saturday.
With the victory, the Warhawks (9-0 overall, 6-0 WIAC) wrap up at least a share of their ninth conference championship in the last 10 years and the program’s 34th all time.
Whitewater also secures the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Playoffs, which begin Nov. 22.
The team also extended its winning streak to 26 games, currently the highest in Division III and the second-longest in college football.
The Warhawks posted 531 yards of total offense, including 500 through three quarters of play. Whitewater forced seven punts and two turnovers by the Pointers (6-3, 3-3) to offset Stevens Point’s nearly 10-minute advantage in time of possession.
Senior wide receiver Justin Howard, one of 11 Warhawk seniors recognized on the field prior to their final home game, registered career highs in receiving yards (151) and touchdowns (2) to lead Whitewater. Junior running back Dennis Moore added a career-best 102 yards on 10 carries, while junior running back Jordan Ratliffe tallied a pair of touchdowns on the ground.
Senior quarterback Matt Behrendt finished 21 of 32 for 294 yards and matched a season high with four touchdowns.
Sophomore linebacker Paul Foster led the defense with eight tackles, while junior linebacker Justin Dischler totaled six tackles, including two sacks, and broke up a pass.
No. 2 Mary Hardin-Baylor 84, Howard Payne 13
Brownwood, Texas -- Mary Hardin-Baylor used a record-setting performance to clinch a postseason berth as the Cru raced to an 84-13 victory against Howard Payne Saturday afternoon in Brownwood.
UMHB improves to 9-0 overall and 4-0 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The win locks up at least a share of the ASC title and guarantees the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships. The loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 4-5 overall and 1-3 in ASC play on the year.
Mary Hardin-Baylor set a new school and ASC record with the 84 total points and Eric Allen's 100-yard interception return broke another school and conference mark. The Cru rolled up 580 yards of total offense and held the Yellow Jackets to just 260. UMHB also tied a school single-game record with six interceptions.
Michael Carpenter ran for 101 yards and two touchdowns and Duane Thompson added 92 yards and a pair of scores. Zach Anderson was 12 of 16 passing for 161 yards and two touchdowns while Blake Jackson went 7-for-8 for 106 yards and two scores. Kamray Runnels finished with five catches for 80 yards and two scores. Cameron Moore was credited with a career-high 11 tackles to lead the Cru and Allen posted 10 stops to go with his interception return.
UMHB has now won 53 consecutive regular season games. The Cru will advance to the postseason for the 11th consecutive year and UMHB locked up at least a share of its tenth consecutive ASC Championship with the win.
No. 5 Wartburg 41, Simpson 10
INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Junior Logan Schrader tied the single-game school record for the second time this season with five touchdown passes in Wartburg's 41-10 win against Simpson. The Knights moved to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in Iowa Conference games as the Storm lost their sixth consecutive game and fell to 3-6 and 0-6.
Schrader who had a similiar performance against Wisconsin-Stout earlier this year, finished 24 of 34 for 376 yards. Junior Brandon Domeyer led the team on the ground with 73 yards as he surpassed 2,000 for his career.
The Orange and Black scored on their first drive of the game as senior Taylor Jacobsmeier (Wapello) caught a 32-yard pass from Schrader.
Simpson answered to tie the score at 7-7 as it scored on the ensuing drive.
In the second quarter, Mitch Rahm caught a 39-yard pass from Schrader on Wartburg's second drive of the frame to regain the lead at 14-7.
The teams traded possesions and the Storm got the ball back after a fumble on a Wartburg punt return, but the Knights got the ball back as the Storm turned it over on downs.
Taylor Jacobsmeier led all receivers with 89 yards on six catches.
Junior Gunner Tranel led the defense with 11 total tackles (six solo and five assists). He also had a team-best two tackles for a loss of 11 yards.
No. 6 John Carroll 66, Otterbein 13
Sixth-ranked John Carroll (9-0, 8-0 OAC) sent its 32 seniors out in style with a 66-13 win against visiting Otterbein (5-4, 5-3 OAC) on Saturday afternoon inside Don Shula Stadium.
Tommy Michals became JCU's first 200-yard rusher since Willie Beers in 1990 with his 205-yard performance.
Michals scored on a 90-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to put JCU up 45-7. The run was the senior's second-longest of his career. His 97-yard touchdown rush at Marietta last year, the longest rush in school history.
Kresimir Ivkovic, who also had a phenominal day, became JCU's all-time leader in field goals in the game's opening drive. Ivkovic made a career-long 46-yard attempt to surpass David Vitatoe with his 36th-career field goal.
JCU's defense kept applying pressure after forcing five Muskingum turnovers last week. John Carroll's defense earned five more against Otterbein.
No. 7 Hobart 29, St. Lawrence 27
Hobart secured its fourth consecutive Liberty League title with a 29-27 victory at St. Lawrence on Saturday. With the win the Statesmen also earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA playoffs. Hobart improves to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the Liberty League.
Freshman Will McCool kicked a 39-yard field goal with 1:03 left in the fourth quarter to secure the victory. Hobart handed the Saints (7-2, 5-1) their first Liberty League loss.
No. 8 Johns Hopkins 33, Franklin and Marshall 14
LANCASTER, PA -- Eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins beat Franklin & Marshall 33-14 in a come-from-behind victory to secure a share of it's sixth consecutive Centennial Conference title. With the victory, the Blue Jays also locked up the Centennial Conference's automatic bid to the upcoming NCAA Playoffs, which begin on November 22.
The Centennial Conference title for the Blue Jays is also the 10th in school history. Johns Hopkins is the first team in Centennial history to win 10 league titles -- all 10 since 2002.
The Diplomats (5-4, 4-4) took their only lead of the game midway through the third quarter as senior Scott LaValva went in from one-yard out to cap a 12-play, 79-yard drive that took nearly seven minutes off the clock and gave Franklin and Marshall a 14-10 lead.
After the teams traded punts, the Blue Jays (9-0, 8-0) took the lead for good on a three-play, 66-yard drive that took just 66 seconds. Braden Anderson threw a 59-yard touchdown pass to Bradley Munday to make it 17-14. It was all Johns Hopkins after that.
Anderson was 15 of 30 for 165 yards with the one touchdown and two interceptions. He also rushed for a career-high 73 yards and the one touchdown. His 54-yard touchdown run is the longest rush by a Johns Hopkins quarterback since Hewitt Tomlin had a 53-yard run at Moravian in 2010.
Defensively, the Blue Jays held the Diplomats to just 266 yards of total offense and forced the three turnovers. Junior Keith Corliss paced the Blue Jays with 11 tackles (one shy of his career high), while sophomore Jack Toner added seven tackles, one forced fumble and fumble recovery.
Wittenberg 21, No. 9 Wabash 15
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- Wittenberg celebrated Senior Recognition Day with a 21-15 victory against arch-rival No. 9 Wabash to clinch a share of the 2014 North Coast Athletic Conference title.
With the win, the Tigers earned an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament for the third consecutive year. Wittenberg improved to 8-1 overall and 8-0 in the NCAC, heading into the regular season finale at Allegheny on Saturday, Nov. 15.
Wabash dropped to 8-1 overall and 7-1 in the league, with a date against DePauw remaining on the schedule. The Little Giants figure to be a top candidate for an at-large berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament with a win next week.
The Little Giants held the upper hand in total offense outgaining the Tigers 348-211. But a pair of blocked kicks and a pair of turnovers proved to be difference-makers for the Tigers.
The first block came on a punt on Wabash's opening drive, and it set the Tigers up with the ball at the Little Giants' 23-yard-line. Wittenberg cashed in four plays later with a two-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Zack Jenkins to junior wide receiver Corey Stump.
Jenkins finished the game 15 of 29 for 157 yards. Junior wide receiver Zach Culvahouse hauled in seven passes for 95 yards to move within three receptions of the school record of 67 catches in a season. Corey Stump added five receptions for 39 yards.
No. 10 Wheaton (Ill.) 13, Illinois Wesleyan 7
Wheaton, Ill. -- Wheaton clinched a share of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship on Saturday with a 13-7 victory against Illinois Wesleyan at McCully Stadium. Wheaton is now 9-0 overall and 6-0 in CCIW play.
The Thunder will close out the regular season next Saturday at Carthage. A victory against the Red Men next week would give Wheaton its first undefeated regular season and outright CCIW Championship since 2003.
Wheaton totaled 400 yards overall, with 242 passing yards and 158 rushing yards. Illinois Wesleyan had 349 yards of offense with 182 yards through the air and 167 yards on the ground.
Wheaton quarterback Johnny Peltz was 22-for-34 passing on the day with 228 yards and one touchdown toss. He also led the Thunder rushing attack with 69 yards on the ground and one touchdown run on 18 carries. Jesse Geary ran the ball 10 times for 42 yards and Luke Thorson caught 10 passes for 85 yards.
