Miami (Fla.) to wear helmet decals in Jose Fernandez's honor

The Miami, Florida community and the entire sports world was shaken last Sunday by the news of the death of Miami Marlins phenom pitcher Jose Fernandez, 24, who was killed in a late-night boating accident.

As the world continues to mourn the native Cuban's death, Miami (Fla.) football will become the latest team to honor the former two-time All Star.

The program announced on Twitter Friday afternoon that the Hurricanes will feature a new helmet decal with Fernandez's "JF" initials along with his jersey number 16 for its upcoming game at Georgia Tech this weekend. The decal appears in white print on a black background and will be featured on the backside of Miami's helmets.

The Hurricanes acknowledged Fernandez's deep impact among the local community in their tweet. Despite his young age, Fernandez was known for his vibrance in the clubhouse and his tremendous service around the Miami area.
