Notre Dame may be struggling on defense this season, but in 2015, the Fighting Irish were loaded with talent on that side of the ball. Two of Notre Dame’s best players were linebacker Jaylon Smith and defensive back KeiVarae Russell.

Each was selected in the 2016 NFL Draft, though Russell is already on his second pro team. Regardless, the two swapped jerseys after the Cowboys defeated the Bengals on Sunday, and it was a heck of a sight for Notre Dame fans:

Smith, in particular, is a favorite among the Fighting Irish faithful. He suffered a serious knee injury against Ohio State in last season’s Fiesta Bowl, but he’s looking to make a comeback as soon as possible.

It’s great to see college football bonds enduring the test of time.

Joe Boozell has been a college basketball writer for NCAA.com since 2015. His work has also appeared in Bleacher Report, FOXSports.com and NBA.com. Joe’s claim to fame since joining NCAA.com: he’s predicted the correct national championship game twice… and picked the wrong winner both times. Growing up, Joe squared off against both Anthony Davis and Frank Kaminsky in the Chicagoland basketball scene. You can imagine how that went.
