Notre Dame’s football program is steeped in 130 years of history, and the team is dipping into that well for a throwback uniform paying tribute to Knute Rockne when the Irish take on Navy this Saturday.

The uniforms take cues from one's past, most notably at the very top of the outfit, with a nod to the leather helmets of yesteryear, including faux leather patterning all over and mimicked stitching wrapping all the way around:

The rest of the uniform also echoes old designs, featuring leather-styled cleats as well as nice new-age touches like gloves that spell Rockne's last name and a pair of Rockne patches on the chest.
It's always fun to see a team add an extra level of meaning into their old school get-ups, and the Irish sure know how to go old school.
The Irish face Navy this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in South Bend.
